WHAT IS A CANVAS TENT?
Canvas tents, unlike their nylon or polyester counterparts, are crafted from a blend of 65% cotton and 35% polyester, coated for waterproofing. Known for their durability, elasticity, and resistance to various elements, polyester canvas tents are favored for their ability to withstand prolonged summer stays, keeping occupants warm and dry.
Distinguished by their sturdy upright walls akin to a house, canvas wall tents offer superior protection from the elements. Their pitched roofs provide ample headroom, allowing occupants to stand fully upright. While available in various sizes, these tents are typically larger and taller than standard models, facilitating the accommodation of sizable furniture pieces like raised beds and wood stoves on their flooring or platform foundations.
WHY DO YOU NEED A CANVAS TENT?
Aside from being more breathable and sturdier than a plastic tent, canvas tents are great at protecting you from the elements during harsh conditions. The cotton inside canvas is a natural insulator, which helps keep you warmer in colder climates. The tight weave makes your canvas wall tent water repellent, keeping you dry during storms while allowing you to breathe comfortably. Canvas is even a natural material, which makes it an eco-friendly and sustainable material that can last for a long time.
1.Waterproof: Since the cotton tent is made of waterproof-coated cotton canvas, its waterproof performance is relatively average and can generally prevent medium-intensity rain. When encountering heavy rain, waterproof measures need to be strengthened, such as installing a waterproof cover, reinforcing tent buckles, etc.
2. Strong wear resistance: Polyester fiber has good wear resistance and can withstand multiple folding and handling. It is not easy to wear and tear after long-term use and has a relatively long life.
3. Light weight: Since polyester fiber is a lightweight material, the tent made of it is also relatively lightweight and easy to carry and store.
4. Affordable: Polyester fiber is a common material, its price is relatively affordable, and it can meet the camping needs of the public.
5. Repaired easily: The best part about canvas tents is that they can be repaired easily when damaged. If it tears apart and rips, you can repair it conveniently and it will not take much time to come back to a usable form.
6. Sustainable: As it has been made with organic cotton, you can rely on it for its sustainability. If left in the dirt, cotton is a biodegradable material that will decompose without harming the environment. So, apart from being beneficial for humans, it is good for the environment as well.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT CANVAS TENT?
You should consider how often you will be personally using the tent. If you’ll be using the tent on a regular basis, a canvas wall tent or a bell tent are both your best bet. If you’ll only be using occasionally, a bell tent might be a better option because they are much easier to take down and setup. Also consider how many people will need to sleep inside and how much gear or furniture you may require. A smaller canvas pup/a-frame tent could be an option for shorter road trips. Finally you will need to consider the cost, canvas tents are more expensive, the larger the size.
How often will you be using the tent?
If you'll be using the tent on a regular basis, a canvas wall tent is a good option. If you'll only be using the tent occasionally, a canvas bell tent is a better option.
How many people will be using the tent?
Though both tent styles can come in different dimensions, canvas wall tents may be worth considering if you want to accommodate a large group of people because they make bunk beds more practical.
What is your budget?
Canvas wall tents are more expensive than canvas bell tents. If you're on a tighter budget, a canvas bell tent is the way to go. If you find canvas bell tents too expensive, you may want to wait to save or opt for cheaper nylon tents.
How will you be using the tent? If you'll be using the tent for camping, glamping or festival-going, a canvas bell tent is a good option. If you'll be using the tent for hunting or other long-term outdoor activities, a canvas wall tent may be a better option.

DOES CANVAS WALL TENTS EASY TO SET UP?
With a simple design featuring 2 poles and multiple pegs, a camping tent of 16' or smaller can be set up in under 20 minutes.
HOW SHOULD YOU CLEAN THESE TENTS?
Start by dry-scrubbing stains with a brush, then use mild soap if necessary. After cleaning, consider applying canvas treatment to restore a protective barrier.
WHAT IS THE LIFESPAN OF A CANVAS WALL TENT IN THE WILD?
Tents used for several weekends per year can last 15-20 years with proper care. However, those erected for 3+ consecutive months annually may have a shorter lifespan due to factors like humidity, location, and maintenance.
HOW DO CANVAS TENTS PERFORM IN SNOW?
Canvas tents are suitable for year-round use and are waterproof and durable. However, extra caution is needed in snowy conditions, as heavy snow can stress the center pole. Using a heater inside during snowfall can help melt snow and prevent damage to the tent structure.
IS A RAIN FLY NECESSARY FOR A TENT?
While technically not required for waterproof tents, a rain fly is recommended to reduce maintenance and extend the tent's lifespan. It provides protection against various elements such as sap, bird droppings, and UV damage, while also helping to regulate internal temperature on hot days.
